What is PRTL?
This badge is awarded to NISCC social care registrants who understand what Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) is and how to maintain this. This is a pilot badge that NISCC are undertaking in partnership with ARC member organisations.
This badge is awarded to NISCC social care registrants who understand what Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL) is and how to maintain this.
By completing this badge social care registrants will be showing that they understand the importance of undertaking learning and development and how this links to their registration and renewal of registration. Registrants can discuss this learning/badge with their manager and/or peers.
- Review subsections of module 1 of the Adult Care Toolkit – Standards, Values and Transitions a) Introduction to Standards, Values and Transitions and b) Social Care Profession. (1 hour)
- Through working through the learning content you should have learned about the following:
- What continuous learning and reflective practice mean.
- What PRTL means?
- What evidence you need for PRTL?
- How you would plan and record your learning?
- Your responsibility for PRTL?
- Your managers/employer responsibility for your PRTL?
- What a PRTL audit is?
- What renewal of registration means and how often this happens.
- Using what you have learned above answer the following questions:
- What do you understand PRTL to mean?
- How you will plan and record your learning?
- Explain what a PRTL audit is?

- Complete a PRTL record for this learning and ask your manager to sign this.
We will decline applications that do not provide enough evidence showing that you have met these criteria.
You must be registered with NISCC and employed by one of the ARC member organisations involved in the pilot with NISCC.
You should complete the Getting Started with Open Badges badge. This badge provides guidance on applying for a badge, submitting evidence etc.
You will need to provide an answer to Question 3 of the criteria section of about 100-200 words and attach your signed record of learning to the application. You can write your answer on the badge application or provide a link to your own blog/portfolio/statement.
If you want to use a blog or ePortfolio entry as evidence, you might find our guide to preparing and publishing your evidence useful. We will also accept short audio or video statements if you prefer these formats.
Remember, the evidence you provide will be viewable by anyone who you show your badge to. Please don’t include confidential or private information within your statements.
