AC/AHSCP Alcohol & Drugs
This badge will help the learner understand the fundamentals of drugs and alcohol work and the relationship of this to their current role.
This badge is one part of the Protecting People Milestone badge and will help a NQSW evidence their progression towards the following standards:
Standard 1 – Developing confidence and competence in the process of assessment using critical thinking skills and analysis to inform professional judgement and decision making.
Standard 2 – Collaborate effectively with service users and others to plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
Standard 3 – Positively promoting the wellbeing, support and protection of children and adults at risk of harm.
Standard 4 -Developing competence and confidence in the professional Social Work role and in managing complexity in professional decision making, drawing on research, evidence and best practice.
Standard 5 – Demonstrating the habits of a practitioner-researcher through routine continuous learning and enquiry with which to encourage and support the learning of self and others.
Standard 6 – Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the wellbeing of self and others.
To achieve this badge you will need to:
- Attend the dedicated session on Drugs and Alcohol in the NQSW protected time
or
- Have individual discussion with representatives of Angus Integrated Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service (AIDARS), Tayside Council on Alcohol, the Web Project, Gowrie Care Recovery and Moving On Service and other relevant services
- Access training and resources on Angus Alcohol and Drugs Partnership webpage

To successfully complete the badge learners must evidence their understanding of the key issues and demonstrate their application in practice by completing the activities listed below:
- Upload a reflection on the risks that drug and alcohol misuse bring to your client group (max 500 words for written work)
- Evidence a map of the drug and alcohol services in Angus and their functions
- Evidence your understanding of the interface between drugs, alcohol and the following:
- child protection
- adult protection
- mental health
- offending behaviours
- domestic abuse and coercive control
- sexual exploitation
We will accept evidence in audio, written or pictorial formats, case examples can be in the format of anonymised records or reports.
