2. Applying the evidence base for effective learning
This badge is awarded to people who design a learning resource to provide learning on a topic of their choice which illustrates the application of the principles of one or more of the models covered in the ‘What Works?’ module of our Digital Learning Design programme.
This badge requires you to design a learning resource to provide learning on a topic of your choice which illustrates the application of the principles of one or more of the models covered in the What works? Applying the evidence base for effective learning module of our Digital Learning Design programme.
It’s not enough to apply technology to learning and hope that it’s effective. The materials and activities for this module examine the evidence base for teaching and learning approaches that work and can be applied in the design and development of digital learning.
This is the second badge in our Digital Learning Design programme.
To earn this badge you must:
- complete our free What works? Applying the evidence base for effective learning module (7 hours minimum)
- design a learning resource to provide learning on a topic of your choice which illustrates the application of the principles of one or more of the models covered in this module (7 hours minimum)
- write a reflective account to accompany this resource which demonstrates (a) the links between the models of learning presented in the module and your learning design and (b) your thoughts on future/further application of the models chosen. (1,000 words minimum)
Applications which do not adequately demonstrate these criteria will be returned.
You must hold the Getting Started, Writing Evidence and Moving Learning Online open badges before you can apply for this one.
We’d like you to design a learning resource to provide learning on a topic of your choice which illustrates the application of the principles of one or more of the models covered in this module. The resource topic should be work-related (eg it should be a topic which you could be expected to design and deliver learning on in your role in your workplace). Hyperlinks, screenshots, or screen recordings of the resource should be included in your evidence submission. If it is not possible for you to create a resource, you can submit a document or storyboard conveying your design and navigation, but you must explain why you cannot create a resource/prototype.
You are asked to write an account to accompany this resource which demonstrates the links between the models of learning presented in the module and your learning design. Your submission should clearly reference the sources you have used to inform your practice. It should also include a discussion of the merits or otherwise of the approach you chose. You should also include some thoughts on future/further application of the models chosen.
If you want to use a blog or ePortfolio entry as evidence, you might find our guide to preparing and publishing your evidence useful. We will also accept audio or video statements if you prefer these formats.
Please remember, the evidence you provide will be viewable by anyone who you show your badge to. Do not include confidential or private information within your statement.
