The Importance of Fluoride
NHS Education for Scotland’s vision is to lead through sustainable educational solutions and working collaboratively with key partners to reduce inequalities and improve oral health for priority groups. This Open Badge is awarded to health care support workers, third sector community workers, early years practitioners.
This badge is open to anyone regardless of whether you are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council. To earn the open badge for this course, you will need to:
Step 1: Complete the e-learning module on NHS Education for Scotland Turas Learn (requires registration to log in) to receive a certificate. TURAS Learn site: https://learn.nes.nhs.scot/60096/reducing-inequalities/open-badges/the-importance-of-fluoride
Step 2: Complete the reflective writing to receive an Open Badge micro-credential (requires registration to log in and reflective writing to upload). To do this, think back to what you learnt in the e-learning module:
- In your own words, tell us about the six steps of dental decay (caries) (75 words minimum).
- Tell us three things you learned about fluoride that surprised you and why (50 words minimum).
- Tell us how you will use what you learned in your day-to-day work or personal life (25 words minimum).
- Tell us what you did to share what you learned with others (25 words minimum).

While there are no prerequisites for this Open Badge, we strongly recommend that your first apply for the Getting Started and Writing Evidence Open Badges.
Remember never include confidential or private information within your evidence. The evidence you submit will be assessed and presented to everyone who you show your badge to. As well as showing that you have achieved the badge, you can also choose to share this assessment and feedback with your manager or team leader.
