Identifying Unpaid Carers
This badge is awarded to those who have completed the module 'Identifying Unpaid Carers' on the NHS for Scotland’s platform, Turas and written a reflective learning account.
The aim of this module is to increase the health and social care services workforce’s awareness and understanding of unpaid carers rights, confidence in identifying unpaid carers and contribution to the best outcomes for both the unpaid carer and the cared for person.
The Module Covers;
- Defining what we mean by unpaid carer.
- The growth of unpaid carers in Scotland.
- National legislation to support unpaid carers rights.
- Challenges and diversity of unpaid carer identification.
- Understanding your role and responsibilities in identifying an unpaid carer.
To achieve this Open Badge you will need to:
- Complete 1A and 1B and of the module Identifying unpaid carers on NHS Education for Scotland’s platform, Turas. You will need to log in or create a free account to see the modules.
- Tell us about three things you learned about identifying unpaid carers and why this is important to you (150 words minimum).
- Tell us why it is important to identifying unpaid carers (75 words minimum).
- Tell us about one thing you will do more of or differently to support identifying unpaid carers in your practice (50 words minimum).
- Speak with your line manager or colleague to discuss your organisations identification of unpaid carers.
- Please attach a screenshot of your pre and post self assessments.
We will decline applications that do not provide enough evidence showing how you have met all the above criteria.

Evidence for this badge can be provided in written, audio (mp3) or video (mp4) format.
The evidence you submit will be viewable by anyone who you show your badge to. Do not include confidential or private information within your submission.
