SCMA Childminders: The Business Side of Childminding
This Open Badge is awarded to Childminders who have attended or completed SCMA The Business Side of Childminding training workshop or eLearning programme. Childminders will be required to explain that they have a professional approach to their business, including, meeting the legal requirements, their approach and knowledge of how to provide quality care and support to children and families using their service. And how they intend to operate within and carry out their legal responsibilities.
This Open Badge is awarded to Childminders who can demonstrate that they have a professional approach to their business.
To complete the badge the potential or existing childminders are required to learn, understand and reflect upon and plan for the following:
- How they will adopt a professional approach to providing a childminding service including best practice for charging fees and arranging contracts and effective communication and negotiation skills.
- How they will meet the legal responsibilities associated with running a small business.
- How to comply with the Health and Social Care Standards.
- Tell us how you will use what you have learnt on the course to improve and develop your practice.

The Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) is the only organisation dedicated to supporting childminders in Scotland. Our aim is to promote childminding as a quality childcare service. We do this in part by helping SCMA childminders to be the best they can be.

The SCMAOpen Badge system relies on trust. We trust that the evidence you provide will be of your own work and based on your own skills and knowledge. By submitting an application you agree to the following statement: “In studying and completing the activities for this badge, I confirm that all the work provided as evidence will be my own.” The SCMA will revoke a badge if the evidence provided is discovered to have been the work of someone else.
