To achieve this badge, you must:
1) Study the Film in Care guide – Read the Film in Care resource to grasp the benefits and 10 core principles of using film in care settings.
2) Plan and prepare – Reflect on how to implement the principles within your setting, focusing on:
- involving people experiencing care in choosing films,
- identifying the best room or area for screenings,
- determining the most suitable time of day for events.
3) Present two film screenings – Using the Film in Care principles, conduct two screenings for people living in the care home. Please pay close attention to their preferences and comfort to create an inclusive and engaging experience.
4) Reflective account – Write a 450 word minimum to 550 word maximum reflection on your screenings, addressing:
- how you planned and prepared,
- responses from people who attended the screenings and any observed changes in well-being,
- improvements noted from the first to the second screening,
- challenges and rewarding aspects of your experience.
Your application will be returned with a request for further evidence if it does not meet all the above criteria.

For your Film in Care badge application, you must provide a reflective account that showcases your understanding and application of the principles outlined in the Film in Care initiative and captures the essence of your personal engagement and impact on the care home environment.

Reflective account length – Your written statement should be between 450 to 550 words. This account should directly respond to the criteria, reflecting on your experiences, observations, and the outcomes of the film screenings you conducted.
Content requirements:
- Clearly state the dates when the film screenings occurred.
- Describe in detail how you involved people experiencing care in the planning process, such as selecting films, choosing the best room for screenings, and determining the ideal times for these events.
- Answer the questions specified in the criteria, providing specific examples and reflections on your experiences.
Personal reflection – Your evidence must be written in the first person, using words like ‘I’, ‘me’ and ‘my’ to convey your own actions, thoughts, and reflections regarding the initiative. This approach will highlight your direct involvement and the personal insights you gained through the process.
Submission format – You may submit your reflective account directly on the badge application form or provide a link to an entry on your own blog or portfolio. Alternatively, if you prefer, we will accept audio or video submissions.
Please be mindful that the evidence you submit will be accessible to anyone you show your badge to. Make sure that your submission does not contain confidential or private information.
