Positive Behaviour Support #2 – Capable environments
This badge relates to chapter 2 -' Capable environments' of the Personal Behaviour Support e-Book.
This badge relates to chapter 2 of the Positive Behaviour Support e-Book which will discuss the importance of getting the environment right for the person. We call environments that support the person well, capable environments. That means they work well for the person and suit them. Capable environments are linked to an improvement in quality of life and a reduction in behaviours which challenge.
The aim of this chapter is to help you understand the importance of creating the right environment for the person. This will ensure that they are supported to live their life in a way which is meaningful to them, which makes sense to them, and over which they have control.
To be awarded this badge, you must:
Write a short reflective statement of between 200 and 300 words about a person you support who displays behaviours that challenge and for whom you think there may not be a capable environment in place.
You should cover the following areas:
- Which of the 12 capable environment characteristics do you think are relevant here?
- What makes you think this? What evidence do you have?
- What might you do to make any changes?
- Who might you need help from to make these changes?
- How would you identify if these changes had worked?
Discuss your ideas with a colleague and write a short summary of your conversation.
Submit this along with your notes for learning activities 4-6 from this chapter to apply for the open badge for this chapter.
You need to achieve both the Getting started with Open Badges and Writing evidence for Open Badge applications badges before applying for this one.
