Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills (SIFS) programme
This Open Badge is awarded to people who have attended seven sessions of the Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills (SIFS) programme and completed a learning journal for each session.
The Scottish Social Services Council has been testing delivery of the Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills (SIFS) programme for social services workers. The aim is to work with appropriately-trained people in social services to deliver it in the sector.
What is Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills?
The aim of SIFS is to support individuals to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to participate as members of improvement teams and contribute to testing, measuring and reporting on changes made.
Who is Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills for?
The programme is aimed at all staff working in public services including people working in Health and Social Services who are or will be members of teams undertaking quality improvement initiatives.
To be awarded this Open Badge you must:
Attend seven sessions of the Scottish Improvement Foundation Skills programme and submit seven completed learning journals (a learning journal for each session). Each of your journals should reflect on:
- the highlight of the session,
- the aspects which caused you the most difficulty or which you struggled with,
- the aspects which surprised you or particularly pleased you,
- three key things you learned from the session,
- following the session, what you carried on doing, what you stopped doing and what you started doing.
Before you submit applications and evidence for this Open Badge you must have already been awarded Open Badges:
Attach your seven learning journals, meeting the criteria above.
There’s no limit to the number of words you can use in each of your journals although we would suggest 500-1000 words will allow you to reflect your learning effectively.
You might find our guide to preparing and publishing your evidence useful.
Remember, the evidence you provide will be viewable by anyone you share your Badge with. Please don’t include confidential or private information within your statement.
