1. PEOLC: Fundamentals in palliative care (Informed level)
We will award this Open Badge to people who demonstrate their knowledge and skills of the fundamental principles and philosophy of a palliative care approach. It incorporates elements essential to developing and improving palliative and end of life care service provision.
The Enriching and Improving Experience Framework identifies the knowledge and skills required by all workers who might come into contact with people who have palliative and end of life care needs. The framework has five domains and this badge reflects the core knowledge and skills considered integral to the fundamentals to the delivery of high quality palliative and end of life care at the Informed level.
Each domain presents four levels of knowledge and skills outlining what workers need to know and do. The levels of knowledge and skills workers need may differ across the five domains depending on their degree of involvement in palliative and end of life care; and their responsibilities in caring for and supporting people, their families and carers.
To earn this badge, you will need to:
- complete pages 9 to 19 of the Informed about palliative and end of life care workbook
- in your own words, tell us about your understanding of the core principles of a palliative care approach (75 words minimum)
- in your own words, tell us about your understanding of what is meant by palliative care, end of life care and last days of life (75 words minimum)
- discuss your thoughts around death and dying and your understanding of diversity with your manager/supervisor/colleagues and tell us what you will do to improve the outcomes of people receiving your service (50 words minimum).
