SCMA Childminders: Children’s Right’s – Participation in Practice
SCMA has developed a Child Led Participation guide specifically for use in childminding settings and its structure follows the 7 Golden Rules of Participation, produced by Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People to help practitioners all over the country get a better understanding of participation.
The Scottish Government is aiming to ensure that there’s increasing awareness of children’s rights and that professionals, including childminders, have access to information about these rights and are able to recognise and respect them. The aim is for children’s rights to be seen as an integral and positive part of the care and support we give to children. Having a knowledge and understanding of rights directly relates to the development of confident individuals, responsible citizens, effective contributors and successful learners.
This Open Badge Programme will provide you with practical examples on how to promote participation in your service. It will also look at ways to evidence this practice which in turn, will support you to develop this area of provision, in line with Care Inspectorate standards.
To earn this badge you will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child-led participation and have understanding of good practice.
You must:
- have completed the SCMA Children’s Right’s Participation in Practice CPL workshop or completed the SCMA Children’s Right’s Participation in Practice eLearning programme
- Tell us the following:
- What is your understanding of the current guidance on Child Led Participation and children’s rights in relation to participation
- Explain the benefits and barriers to Child Led Participation and the Childminders role in supporting children to express their views, make decisions and participate
- Tell us how you will use what you have learnt on the course to improve and develop your practice when it comes to involving children and ways you will prove that participation is taking place
