Health and safety: Promoting health and safety in the workplace
Health and safety features not only at work but in every aspect of your life: on transport, when you go shopping, go on holiday, where you study, in the places you worship, or even in your own home. However, it is in the workplace that you, as workers, share the responsibility with your employers to ensure that the working environment is a safe place for everyone who uses that environment. This includes individuals, workers, key people and others.
The SSSC ebook, Health and safety for social service workers provides underpinning information and context for all care and support workers. It is not intended to be a comprehensive guide, nor is it intended to replace employers’ guides and procedures. Although this learning resource has been designed to enable you to develop knowledge to promote good practice in all your work, you may find it particularly helpful if you are undertaking, or about to undertake, a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Social Services and Healthcare. In conjunction with the other apps in this series, it contributes to knowledge that you will require to complete SVQ’s.
We know that the most effective learning we do is learning we apply in the real world as soon as possible. So, in this resource, most of the activities will ask you to carry out tasks in your workplace and discuss the outcomes with your supervisor/assessor/mentor and/or line manager and enable you to create evidence you can use here to claim this badge.
To achieve this badge you will need to:
- complete Activity five in the Promoting health and safety section of Chapter three of the ebook. Anonymise your form and attach it to your evidence for this badge
- write a short account to explain how you will use the knowledge you gained from the promoting health and safety section in your practice in future (150 words minimum).
We will decline applications that do not provide enough evidence showing how you have met these criteria.
Submit your application
I confirm that I have read, understood and completed all the activities listed in the badge criteria and that each question from the criteria is answered in the evidence I have provided. My evidence has been written or recorded by me and I have not copied it from anywhere or anyone else. I understand that it will take 28 days for you to assess my application and that feedback cannot be provided if my application is unsuccessful.
Your evidence, name, and email address will be sent to the organisation who issue this badge
