Music Therapy in Care Settings – How to use music therapeutically
This badge aims to help people who are working within social care in care homes, care at home and unpaid carers who are supporting people who are living with dementia at home to implement therapeutic music skills into their practice and demonstrate how it will benefit people in their care. It may be useful for anyone looking to learn more about music therapy and its role in dementia, as well as healthcare staff who may be considering working in dementia in the future.
While these approaches have been developed for working with people who are living with dementia, the evidence demonstrates that they are effective in working with all people, including those with acquired brain injury, stroke, or those who do not suffer any conditions of cognitive decline.
To achieve this badge, you must:
- Work through the How to use Music section of the NHS Lothian Art Psychotherapies website. Watch all the videos or use PDF version.
- Tell us three things that stood out to you in the learning materials and how you will apply this in practice, giving an anonymised example of someone under your care referring to the ‘Dos and Don’ts’. (150 words minimum).
- Discuss what you have learned with someone (e.g. line manager or colleague) and make a short note of this discussion. (50 words minimum).
