Positive Behaviour Support #5 – Communication tools
This badge relates to chapter 5 of the Positive Behaviour Support e-Book which builds on the previous chapter which focused on communication. The previous chapter explored what communication is and why good communication is important within a PBS approach. This chapter will consider communication in more detail and will look at specific tools and approaches that can help build good communication for people with learning disabilities.
The aim of this chapter is to help you learn about specific supports to communication, in particular visual supports.

Consider someone you support, and complete slides 7-11 regarding their communication.
- Use the prompt questions to complete as much information as you can – there may be bits you don’t know the answer to.
- Take this to your team meeting or discuss with a colleague and include as much information as possible.
