Positive Behaviour Support #8 – Learning new skills
This badge relates to chapter 8 of the Positive Behaviour Support e-Book and will introduce you to an important part of the PBS framework – helping the person to learn new skills. Learning new skills can mean the person no longer needs to engage in behaviours that challenge, and therefore it’s an essential part of PBS.The chapter will introduce you to different types of new skills, and then give guidance on how best to write plans to teach a new skill. The aim of the chapter is that you are able to start planning how to help someone you support to learn a new skill.
To be awarded this badge, you must:
Use your responses to learning activities 22-24 in this chapter to think about how you could help someone learn a new skill. Write a reflective account of between 200 and 300 words and consider the following:
- How might learning this skill affect behaviour that challenges?
- How can you use Task Analysis and Prompting to help the person learn the skill?
- Is there anything else that could help them learn?
Discuss your ideas with a colleague and note down any feedback.
Submit this along with learning activities 22-24 from this chapter to apply for the open badge for this chapter.
